I walked by the display case at the Flying Monkey Patisserie and my mouth started watering. The cupcakes and other treats looked so yummy, I couldn’t imagine that they could possibly taste as good as they looked. After much deliberation between the Peanut Butter Plaid cupcake (Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Buttercream) and the Flying Monkey cupcake(Chocolate Cake stuffed with Banana Chunks and Vanilla Buttercream covered in Chocolate Buttercream), I settled on the Lavender cupcake (Chocolate cake with Lavender-flavored Buttercream). I was not disappointed with my choice. The cake was moist but not crumbly, and the frosting melted in my mouth!

The flying Monkey Patisserie is as much a treat to the senses as it is a treat to the palate. This bakery is located in the Reading terminal market in Philadelphia. Its specialty is cupcakes although they also make delectable cakes and brownies. They make all of their pastries on site and they are definitely worth the trek through Reading terminal market to taste these luscious treats. We haven’t made it through the entire array of offerings yet, but we have tried the Mint Chocolate Brownies and highly recommend them!

Owner and Pastry Chef Rebecca Michaels is the brainchild behind this operation and opened the bakery when she translated her passion for baking into her profession. So thank Rebecca for the sugar high you’ll get when you try one her delectable treats or the low you’ll get when you realize that last half of brownie that you hid in the back of your fridge and have been dreaming about all day was eaten by your boyfriend, husband or roommate.
